It all begins with an idea.

Not sure why anyone in this day in age reads or has a blog.

Feels like something that exists to somehow legitimize otherwise fictitious business that exists only on the internet.

Regardless, this blog exists so I can report on the existence of “bamfomania” and all things related to it.

What is bamfomania? asked no one ever. It’s technically a rap group. Myself (David aka @sultansatire) and my friend Alex (@bubbawhyy) went to college in Michigan together. At a very weird and cult-like Christian university, we abandoned our loosely held religious beliefs and decided we were the next big thing in Hip-Hop. To be fair, Alex was a film major and is skilled at making videos, so the first song we put out had this incredible visual and it made everything very real. Also, the minimally competitive small town we lived in wasn’t exactly a place known for mind-shattering creative music. It was easy to stand out, so we got to do shows, that our friends came to, and open for real acts that came through town because there was barely anyone else able to open for them.

We decided to chase our big girl dreams out in Los Angeles and within the first year managed to bring in over 500$ dollars in parking citations. I should mention we’re both fans of comedy. We used to do this weird improv thing that we thought was funny which eventually died out as we became older and more bitter. However, we did freestyle a lot, often about gay subjects, which we thought was funny. So the world’s greatest freestyle rap and comedy podcast was born. DOME with bamfomania is a show where we sporadically play beats throughout the entire episode. If the beat drops while you're talking about a subject, you have to rap about it. Not the worst idea, and it often results in some pretty funny stuff.

It feels like writing one’s own thoughts is in itself condescending and narcissistic, and so is podcasting. But if you suddenly have to rhyme on rhythm every so often it feels slightly less annoying and douchy. If you’re reading this, and you aren’t famous, and you have a podcast, it is statistically most likely that it sucks.

The podcast has been rolling for about 3 years now, we’ve had on some cool people, and I’m going to start writing about the people who come on who are worth writing about. Also, since the show is smoothly sailing, we’ve been able to start making music more and it is the main focus of the group and why it was started in the first place.

I’m writing this because I want to materialize the idea of the group and define it as more than a rap duo, or a podcast. The more I try to do that though the more difficult it seems. Nike is a business, they sell athletic wear, easy. Bamfomania doesn’t have any products that are tangible and able to be sold as of right now, other than the below-average Shopify merch I have over at sultansatire.com

It’s been 10 years since we started making music. Along the way we’ve done many things, but it feels like a business that sells nothing. I’d like for this to become something like Bar Stool Sports, but the brand is focused on hip-hop and comedy.

The journey of content creation is a long and highly unrewarding path that keeps the dim candle of hope burning with the belief that you might spontaneously build a business on a wave of sudden virality. Until you one day find yourself writing a blog like it’s 2002.

Whatever the case, I’m doing this because it’s kind of fun to write. I do music because it’s fun when it turns out well. You get the idea.

Thanks for reading, if you’re doing something other then just going to a job good for you, and if not, who cares, it doesn’t matter.
